Cost to design and permit a backyard studio in Berkeley, CA

While accessory dwellings are frequently used as rental homes, guest houses, or home offices, some of our clients have asked us for creative spaces. One client in Berkeley wanted to convert her garage into something she could use as a studio and as a guest house with the possibility of living in it herself sometime in the future. A New Avenue design professional created a studio with laundry facilities, a bedroom, a living area, a full bathroom, a half bathroom, a workshop, and a utility sink. The design leaves a long open space for a garden in the main home’s backyard.

This is a versatile space that can be used as a guest room and a creative space now. The owner will be able to make a few minor adjustments to rent it out or live in it herself if she chooses to do so later.
