Cost to design and build a one-bedroom backyard accessory dwelling in Berkeley

Planning to build an accessory dwelling in his backyard, Alex came to New Avenue to connect with a design professional and contractor and to manage his project.

He wanted to build a stand-alone unit that he could rent out to family or to short-term renters. An existing garage would have to be demolished to make room for the new structure.

A New Avenue design professional used the ideas he'd put together to design an accessory dwelling that would work beautifully as a short- or long-term rental.

The one-bedroom, one-bathroom dwelling includes a kitchen, living room, and dining room. Clerestory windows in the living area let light into the room and contribute to the beauty of the building's interior and exterior.
