The Right Way to Start a Project: How New Avenue seamlessly brings together owners and designers to start a remodel, ADU, addition or new home

We have found that the best way to start is to meet with you in your home. That’s why we’ve set up an easy-to-follow process that starts with a click, leads to a meeting, and ends with a detailed project proposal.

Ready to get started? Here’s how it works

Step 1: Fill out a Goals & Ideas questionnaire on New Avenue. These questions are based on our experience with thousands of clients and designers. They’re designed to get you thinking about the right things. You can download a pdf copy of your questionnaire to refer to during your meeting.

Step 2: Set up a call with a New Avenue project manager to discuss your ideas, your goals and the New Avenue process. Let us know when to call you here.

Step 3: Sign up for an in-home design/build session. You can do that during your free call.

Step 4: The designer will introduce themselves using your project page. We commit to having a designer follow up within a day. Your designer can meet with you within a week.

Here’s a sample introduction:

Hello, my name is David. I am a New Avenue partner designer. Your project sounds really exciting! I would like to suggest that we meet at your property so that we can meet, look over the home and discuss your options for design and development. Are you available in the early evening sometime next week? At the moment, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings are open for me. Does one of those dates work for you? David

These messages are private and are posted on your project timeline. Once you respond, it’s meeting time.

Step 5: Meet with your designer. This is where your journey really begins. A vetted, experienced design professional will come to you to discuss your goals and options. The professional will listen to you, share design ideas, and review zoning and building codes.

Why meet at your home instead of in an office? Design professionals are trained to see things in minutes that the rest of us would never see. That’s why meeting in the space to be remodeled makes a difference. Our professional will bring their talent, education, and experience to you and your unique project.

Step 6: Review your proposal. After your meeting, you’ll receive a detailed design proposal that lists every step along with an estimate of hours and costs. If you decide to hire the designer, simply approve the proposal. We’ll send you a design agreement that lays out the details with special attention to the industry’s best practices in design, permitting, and construction administration.

Don’t waste your time with useless free visits. While some designers and contractors offer free consultations, they don’t offer free design work. All you’re really getting is a sales pitch.

At New Avenue, we charge for the initial meeting because it’s a true work session—there’s no time wasted on hype. Our designers provide useful information that’s unique to your project, getting the ball rolling right away. In the end, you’ll have a working project plan and real advice that you can use.
