Cost to design and permit a one-bedroom ADU and home improvements in San Bruno, CA

Jeff and his family own a two-story home in San Bruno with plenty of space in the backyard. They decided to build an accessory dwelling on the hill behind their home, leaving space in the yard to play. They also wanted to leave room to expand their main home in the future.

Adding an accessory dwelling is a great idea for a family in San Bruno (or almost anywhere). Jeff's family plans to use this space for a grandparent or as extra space for the kids.

Their design requirements included one bedroom and a full, senior-friendly bathroom with safety features such as grip bars and a bench.

A New Avenue partner designer designed an accessory dwelling that will meet their needs and leave space for them to enjoy the backyard. It will also leave room to expand the main house when the time is right. The designer also planned some improvements to the main home.

Design and permitting costs for this project came to $15,495.65. You can see the full design and permitting budget below.
