When Hanh decided to add an accessory dwelling unit to her backyard, she came to New Avenue for design services. She wanted a place for her parents to live in the short term and that could be rented out in the future.
A New Avenue partner architect designed an accessory dwelling unit to meet Hanh’s needs. As part of the design process, the architect planned for appropriate drainage on the property. Much of the pavement in the backyard would have to be removed, so the architect added a permeable deck to the design.
The final design was for a 700-square-foot detached secondary dwelling unit with one bedroom, one bathroom, and a loft. Also included were a full kitchen and a laundry area.
The total design cost for this project was $19,645.00. You can view the full design budget below.
