If you’re interested in building an ADU or remodeling your Portland-area home, you’ll need some information. And you probably have questions. We love questions.
Your first step is a free call.
Most of our projects start with a free call so we can talk about your needs and answer your questions. We’ll discuss:
- Your goals
- Your budget
- Similar projects that we’ve completed, their budgets, and their timelines
- The New Avenue process
Then we’ll connect you with the design–build team that’s perfect for your project.
The initial consultation lays the foundation for the entire project.
Your design–build team (an experienced design professional and a licensed general contractor) will kick off the pre-design phase with a consultation meeting, where they’ll gather as much information as possible. Your team will talk with you, asking plenty of questions, to truly understand your goals, ideas, budget, and expectations. Just as it’s important to get to know you, it’s also important to get to know your property. Your designer and contractor will tour your site, making note of anything that will affect your design, budget, or timeline.
Your designer will see all the possibilities and help you understand the entire New Avenue process. This includes a discussion of permitting requirements in your area.
Your general contractor will look for potential problems. Knowing about unusual site conditions, possible slow-downs, and potential added costs before you get started can prevent unwanted surprises.
Above all, your team will make sure communication is open, clear, and plentiful, so everyone knows exactly what to expect. This will save you time, money, and frustration.
All of this is the basis for your design, permitting, and construction. It affects everything we do throughout the entire project.
What happens next?
Once your designer and contractor have a very clear picture of what you want and what will work with your property, they’ll work together to come up with a full design proposal and construction estimate for your project. That way you’ll know up front what your project will cost.
Once you approve the budget and pay your deposit, we’ll launch into Phase One, the pre-design phase of your project.
Portland is the perfect place to build an ADU for yourself, your family, or for renters. Schedule your free call today and get started on a project that will change your life.
